SLEE DOG TRAINING

VIDEO TWO

IMPLEMENTED SOME MANUAL PERSUASION, IN THE FORM OF A BOOT TO THE BACKSIDE. WE WANT INSTANT RESPONSE. THE SIMULATED PART OF FORCE TRAINING IS A TYPE OF TESTING TIME, A TIME TO LET THE DOG SHOW WHAT HE HAS LEARNED, AND A TIME TO IMPLEMENT SOME FURTHER FORCE TRAINING AS NEEDED. POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT ONLY TRAINING WILL GET RESULTS, BUT IT DOES NOT INSTILL THE FULL IDEA OF MAN BEING THE MASTER, THE DOMINATING FORCE, AND IN PRECARIOUS SITUATIONS WHERE SPLIT SECONDS OR SECONDS COUNT, A LACK OF PUNISHMENT FOR DISOBEDIENCE DURING TRAINING COULD SPELL DISASTER. IT'S LIKE IN SCHOOL, WHERE DISOBEDIENCE MEANS A PADDLING. THAT IS GOOD INCENTIVE TO BEHAVE. LACK OF FEAR OF PUNISHMENT JUST CREATES THE RIGHT ENVIRONMENT FOR DISOBEDIENCE. THIS IS MUCH MORE SO IN DOGS THAN IN PEOPLE, BECAUSE DOGS HAVE NO REAL MORAL REASONING ABILITY, JUST PRACTICAL REASONING ABILITY.

NOTE THAT TRAINING THE "UP" COMMAND IS NOT HARD, BECAUSE DOGS ARE ACTION CRITTERS. THE TRICK IS IN GETTING THEM TO REMAIN AT THE "STAY" POSITION, UNTIL A COMMAND IS GIVEN.
THE "FETCH" (RETRIEVE) SECTION IS A CLEAR ILLUSTRATION OF AT LEAST 2 THINGS: A DOG NATURALLY HAS CHASE DRIVE, AND; ONCE A TASK IS LEARNED, THEY CAN ANTICIPATE WHAT THE NEXT COMMAND IS BY READING YOUR BODY LANGUAGE. I WOULD ALL BUT SAY THAT A WELL TRAINED DOG CAN READ YOUR MIND, BUT IT IS LIKELY THE 6TH SENSE AND A KEEN DISCERNING ABILITY AT WORK. I HAVE READ THAT A DOG'S SENSES ARE SO ACUTE THAT THEY PICK UP BODY LANGUAGE SIGNALS THAT WE HUMANS CANNOT DETECT. I HAVE HAD DOGS SO WELL TRAINED TO MY COMMANDS THAT, FOR INSTANCE, WHEN HE HAS HIS BACK TO ME AND IS ABOUT TO GET INTO SOMETHING OR GO THE WRONG WAY, THAT I POINT AT HIM, INDIGNANTLY, AND HE JUST SORT OF SHRINKS AND LOOKS BACK AT ME, REFRAINING FROM THE WRONG ACTION, OR SIMPLY CORRECTS HIMSELF.
NOTE, ONCE HYPED UP FOR FETCH, HAMMER IS HARDER TO CONTROL VERBALLY. THEY'RE LIKE KIDS GETTING EXCITED ABOUT GOING SOMEWHERE OR GETTING TO DO SOMETHING THEY REALLY LIKE TO DO. ONCE THEIR SPIRITS ARE PROVOKED (EITHER GOOD OR BAD), THEY ARE A BUNDLE OF ENERGY. THAT'S ONE REASON WHY POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT ONLY TRAINING IS POTENTIALLY LACKING IN TENSE SITUATIONS. I AM A FIRM BELIEVER IN THE WOLF PACK THEORY. THE LOWER RANKING MEMBERS DO NOT ATTACK ANOTHER ANIMAL UNLESS THE LEADER GIVES THE OKAY TO, BE IT PREY OR A DOG FROM A RIVAL PACK. IF THEY DO WITHOUT PERMISSION, THEN THE LEADER SEVERELY REPRIMANDS THEM, WITH TEETH AND CLAWS. THIS TYPE OF RESPECT OF AUTHORITY FROM THE LEADER IS ENGRAINED IN ALL DOGS. GIVEN FREE REIGN, A DOG WILL DO AS IT PLEASES.
THIS WAS THE LAST REAL GOOD YEAR FOR WHOPPER (BLACK LAB), BUT AS OF TODAY, NOV. 17TH, 2012, HE IS 13 YRS., 27 DAYS OLD, AND DOING PRETTY GOOD, BEING WALKED DAILY WITH NO PROBLEMS GETTING UP. I THOUGHT HE WAS DONE 2 WINTERS AGO, DUE TO HIP ISSUES. I PUT HIM BACK ON PREVICOX I HAD AND GLUCOSAMINE W/MSM, WHICH HELPED A LOT, FOR THE REST OF THE WINTER AND THROUGHOUT SPRING, STARTING AGAIN ONCE IT TURNED COOLER. THIS PAST SUMMER I STARTED GIVING HIM ALFALFA TABLETS (SPRING VALLEY) AND THAT HAS MADE A VERY NOTICEABLE IMPROVEMENT. SO I THINK THAT ARTHRITUS HAS BEEN A BIGGER ISSUE THAN MAYBE THE HIPS. HE ALSO STAYS INSIDE SINCE 2 WINTERS AGO, WHEN IT IS COOLER THAN ABOUT 55 DEGREES.
I READ SOMEWHERE THAT DOGS CAN DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN A SOUND THAT IS A FOOT AWAY AND THE SAME SOUND THAT IS A FEW INCHES AWAY (OR OTHER DISTANCES APART), SO I GOT THE IDEA TO TRAIN WHOPPER "TURN" R/L USING THAT FINDING. THEY ARE DEFINTELY SHARP.

TRAINING & CARE SUPPLIES BY LEERBURG

For added enhancement to training secrets, I have been adding more extensive comments under each video, along with the time frame and canine to which the comment corresponds. The real bare bones methods and techniques of many things in society today, including dog training, have been largely lost, due to a myriad of technological devices, "magic" train quick brainstorms and old wives fables. While it is true that a handful of people, such as the late Barbara Woodhouse, can train her, and sometimes others', dogs a new task within a few minutes or hours, most people cannot achieve to that degree of excellence. And anyone who can, including her, implements a variety of foundational techniques, as well as fine tuning enhancements to them. Speed of success also depends upon the dog and his/her relationship to the master. If you've allowed your dog to slack off, or if you've never really worked much with your dog, then the dog has become set in it's ways, and it will take more time and determination on your part. But, as the basis of Slee Dog Training's theme is, there is NO DOG UNTRAINABLE!

I WILL BE ADDING TRAINING COMMENTS SOON. THANKS!

VIDEOS SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT AND NINE

I WILL POST THE INSTRUCTIONAL COMMENTS FOR THESE VIDEOS PRESENTLY

THE FIRST PART HERE WITH HAMMER SHOWS WHAT I CALL VARIABLE REINFORCEMENT. YOU GRADUALLY FADE OUT TOTAL FORCE TRAINING TO SIMULATED FORCE TRAINING, OR IN OTHER WORDS, YOU ACT LIKE YOU'RE MANUALLY MAKING THE DOG PERFORM A TASK. FORCE TRAINING IS QUICKER AND MORE SURE THAN POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT ONLY TRAINING. IT'S SOMETHING LIKE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ARMY INSTRUCTOR MAKING A TRAINEE DO SOMETHING, AND TRYING TO TALK THE TRAINEE INTO DOING SOMETHING. I KNOW OF TRAINEES WHO, ONCE APPROACHING THE OPEN DOOR OF AN AIRBORNE PLANE, FROZE, BUT ONLY MOMENTARILY, BECAUSE THE INSTRUCTOR/COMMANDER INSTANTLY
